How to Clean and Store Your Toys

A simple routine for cleaning, charging and storing toys so they stay in good shape for longer.

Most care advice comes down to one rule: follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific toy. Everything below is general guidance to help you build a routine around them.

Check how water-resistant it is first

Before a toy goes anywhere near a sink, look for an IPX rating on the product page or packaging. IPX7 means the manufacturer rates it for submersion; lower ratings or no rating mean you should wipe it down rather than rinse it.

Keep charging ports dry and closed. If a toy has a removable battery, take it out before cleaning.

A basic cleaning routine

Clean before first use and after every use. Warm water with a mild, fragrance-free soap, or a cleaner made for toys, works for most finishes. Rinse or wipe away all residue, then pat dry with a lint-free cloth.

Avoid harsh chemicals, alcohol and boiling unless the manufacturer specifically says the toy can take it.

Lube and materials

Water-based lube works with every toy material and rinses off easily. Silicone lube can affect some silicone toys, so check the toy manufacturer’s guidance before pairing them. Our lube guide covers the differences in more detail.

Charging

Use the cable that came with the toy and charge it on a dry surface. Many manufacturers recommend topping up rechargeable toys every few months, even when they are not in regular use.

Storage

Store toys clean, fully dry and out of direct sunlight. A pouch or separate compartment for each one stops different materials from touching, and keeps dust and lint off.

If a toy shows cracks, tears or a sticky surface, stop using it and check with the manufacturer.
